The Mold Fairy Released

Well, that didn’t take long. My August game, The Mold Fairy, is released. It’s a game about mold, magic, and death.

Once upon a time, there was a fairy for everything. One for frost, one for cobwebs, one for dew… and one for mold. When the fairy queen Titania decided that humans had lost their respect for mold, the mold fairy was sent down to teach them the power of the fuzzy fungi. Did the fairy brighten the humans’ lives, or curse them with poisons and spoiled food? Only you can decide.

Play The Mold Fairy on Armor Games.

This is a game in the vein of “Majesty of Colors” and How to Raise a Dragon; there are choices, and they affect outcomes. In this case, the choices are what to mold, and the outcomes run the gambit. This is my most explicit use of the “achievement” concept so far; I think it works for this sort of game.

Let me know what you think of The Mold Fairy!

    1. The game loads a rather large number of bitmap files as it starts. Your computer might not have the memory for it. I’ll look into ways to reduce the memory footprint. For now, try waiting a while after you think it’s frozen. If it takes more than, say, a minute, then something’s gone wrong and you won’t be able to play until I find a better solution.

    2. I’ve sent Armor Games a version that should keep the game from hanging and reduce its memory footprint. It will probably go up Monday.

  1. Hee! What a cute concept. I like the insectoid portrayal of Titania.

    One question: Is the well _meant_ to be completely pitch-black? I ask because I hit a bug in How To Raise A Dragon which made the screen black (after landing on the castle), and it took me a while to realise it wasn’t meant to do that. Am I supposed to find some way to light up the well before I can explore it, or is this a bug? (I’ve been bumbling around blind sprinkling mold, but without success)

    1. If you’re referring to the lost kid, you need to help him find his own way to safety. If you’re referring to the sick kid, you should check the description of each of the four kinds of mold; one has the potential to help.

  2. I can only find the first mod the one for cheese and the posinus one. where do I find the fourth one?

  3. Great game, like usual. I couldn’t stop playing until I got all the titles.

    I’m only a bit disappointed that doing nothing lets you win the “balanced demonstrator” glitch;

  4. I can’t figure out how to get the Decaying Paragon title; I have every other one and have tried a bunch of variations. Is there a way to save the family from bankrupcy without using the toxic mold? I’ve tried letting them go bankrupt and that didn’t work either. What am I missing?

    1. At the moment, there is an issue where curing the mother (Double Rescuer) doesn’t register as a helpful act. This might be your problem. Essentially, to get Decaying Paragon you need to get Beacon of Hope, Gourmet Chef, Home Wrecker, Surprise Recovery Nurse/Serendipitous Researcher, and Plot Foiler all in the same game.

    1. You need to find a way for them to invalidate their mortgage by suing the original sellers. Check your mold supply to see if you have something that can help with that.

  5. I have gotten every single achievement on the game except “Thorough Advocate”!!!!! how in the world…?
